This collection of projects attempts to deepen our understanding of urban informality in a historical context, both of slums and informal livelihood activities, and present strategies that can improve conditions for slumdwellers and informal sector workers by working within existing urban institutional structures.

Inclusive Planning and Infrastructure

Projects in this initiative seek to understand and document the ways in which city residents access land, infrastructure, and services in practice, particularly the urban poor. Building on this knowledge and with a focus on the poor, projects also suggest means of improving the quality of and access to services.
